Phenolic Renovation - Floor to Ceiling

Milwaukee Composites, the global leader in phenolic composite products, selected D&B Industrial Floor Coatings Inc to restore an older building on Milwaukee's south side before they expanded into their new 60,000 sq ft space. The existing facility was dark and in need of some TLC. In addition, the floor needed to act as a release agent for some of Milwaukee Composites phenolic resins and adhesive compounds. It was important for the client to brighten and restore the space, they needed to get in and get started quickly, and they wanted to create an improved work environment for their employees. Through a thorough inspection, sample installation and testing for adhesion on several sealers, and competitive bidding process, it was decided that D&B Industrial would complete the project.  The work would include D&B painting the ceiling, walls and columns in a bright color, then proceeding with a proprietary wet polishing system and application of a unique penetrating floor sealer which would act as both a dustproofing / sealing agent, along with reducing resin adhesion. The joints and spalls were repaired in the floor, and the concrete was polished and sealed to provide the client with a new cleanable surface. The projects main challenge was the extremely adhesive phenolic resin, which forced us to find a unique solution beyond simply a concrete hardener, topical guard, silane/siloxane, or coating. The system required both the smoothing of the surface to prevent mechanical adhesion of the resin, but also a penetrating sealant which would act as a release agent without wearing out. Add to that a very tight time schedule, existing coatings and sealer on the floor, coordination of both painting and polishing through the facility to keep on schedule, and other trades which needed to complete their work, and a budget to maintain for the client, you had a D&B challenge we couldn't resist. Crew team members included Ageo, John, Rick, Matt and several others to achieve completion, as there were many team members who gave up their weekends and long days to produce the finished product.
